Marines test new technology at Combat Center > U.S. Marine Corps Flagship > News Display


The Marine Corps Air-Ground Combat Center has emerged as a key center for innovation within the U.S. Marine Corps. His MCAGCC, the largest Marine Corps training facility of its kind, has become an important testing ground for emerging technologies.

Marines with the MCAGCC Marine Air-Ground Task Force Training Command Tactical Training and Exercise Management Group, working with the Office of Naval Research, tested a four-legged robotic platform called the “Robot Goat,” Sept. 9, 2023. Safadi said MCAGCC’s permissive live-fire environment and deep knowledge resources make it suitable for testing emerging technologies. His TTECG presence at MCAGCC, combined with the continued influx of diverse training units each year, provides a unique opportunity to observe and study the Marine Corps’ many standard operating procedures, tactics, techniques, and procedures. . This wealth of experience and knowledge makes the MCAGCC an ideal location for testing and refining new military technologies.

Large-scale exercises such as the Marine Corps Air-Ground Task Force Combat Exercise give Marines the opportunity to test new technologies in unscripted force-on-force exercises. This will allow the Marine Corps to understand how to implement new technology and how to counter it. The robotic platforms being tested at MWX range from small unmanned aircraft systems to the HDT Hunter Wolf, a 2,200-pound unmanned vehicle capable of delivering a variety of sensors and heavy weapons to the battlefield.

The Marines at MCAGCC have also begun implementing virtual reality to aid in training. The Combat Simulation Center has developed virtual training techniques in conjunction with ONR to train joint tactical air controllers and forward air controllers in a safer, more economical, and more realistic environment.

Force Design plays a key role in the ongoing robotics testing and integration at MCAGCC. Testing emerging technologies such as robotics aligns with Force Design’s purpose by providing a platform to evaluate the practicality and effectiveness of robotics systems for use on future battlefields.

The MCAGCC contributes to the Marine Corps’ broader goal of ensuring the Marine Corps is equipped with cutting-edge tools and capabilities for future warfare scenarios.
