VMM-268 MRF-D Preparation for Deployment > U.S. Indo-Pacific Command > 2015


Today, U.S. Marine Corps MV-22B Ospreys from the 1st Marine Aircraft Wing (MAW), 24th Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron (VMM), and 24th Marine Aircraft Group (MAG) departed from Marine Corps Base Hawaii, Pearl Harbor. Departed for Joint Base Harbor-Hickam. It will now be deployed to the 13th annual iteration of Marine Rotational Force Darwin (MRF-D) in Australia.

Over the next week, the aircraft will be transported from Hawaii to Darwin, where the squadron will serve as the Air Combat Command (ACE) and complete the Marine Air Ground Task Force in Australia’s Northern Territory. While in Darwin, VMM-268 will engage in a variety of exercises and training activities with the Australian Defense Force, increasing flight time and providing valuable exposure to a diverse training environment.

“The Marines of VMM-268 have been working extremely hard over the past few months to get the aircraft ready to move to Darwin,” said Col. William Haken, commander of MAG-24. “Seeing the aircraft on display at Pearl Harbor today is a testament to their dedication and hard work. I have the utmost confidence in the Marines and Sailors of MV-22B and VMM-268. MAG -24 is very excited to forward deploy our air combat elements to participate in the 13th iteration of MRF-D.”

The 1st MAW has maintained a commitment to readiness and ensured continued readiness to effectively accomplish its mission. Preparatory events leading up to MRF-D provide assurance to Indo-Pacific partners and confirm the readiness, proficiency, and positive attitude of the 1st MAW. VMM-268 continues to prepare for deployment and looks forward to training with our allies and partners.
