SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – Military officials have confirmed that two Marines based at Camp Pendleton were killed in a vehicle accident in the Oceanside area last week.

An official from the 1st Maritime Logistics Group Communications Strategy Management Office said: Jacob Johnson and LCpl. Eduardo Hernandez Zambrano, both of the 1st Maintenance Battalion, were killed in a crash on Interstate 5 on April 25.

“The command is saddened by the accident and is doing everything possible to assist those grieving this loss,” said an official from the 1st Marine Logistics Group’s Communications Strategy and Operations Office.

The California Highway Patrol said troopers and paramedics were dispatched to southbound Interstate 5 near Cocklebar Road around 9 p.m. for a reported two-vehicle crash. .

Johnson, 21, a CHP officer, was driving a silver Hyundai Genesis when, for unknown reasons, the car “swerved to the right onto the shoulder of the road and struck a parked Kenworth truck/tractor.” .

Paramedics rushed to the scene, but Johnson and her front seat passenger, 19-year-old Hernandez Zambrano, were pronounced dead at the scene.

No other injuries or fatalities were reported.
