“I want to cause mayhem.” Retired Marine threatens to kill white man, authorities say

A retired Marine is facing charges following a social media post in which he allegedly threatened to kill a white person.

Joshua Cobb, 23, was arrested earlier this month and charged with communicating threats in interstate and foreign commerce.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Cobb first made the threat on December 17, 2022, in a social media post under the handle “NearbyUser101.”

Cobb wrote in part, “I want to cause chaos in the white community. The reason I specifically want to target white people is because as a black man they will never understand my struggles. Likewise, I want to cause their struggles.” I’ll never understand, but I don’t want to. I want to erase it all, but in this case as much as I can.” He claimed to carry out the attack in 2023.

Authorities said Cobb also made multiple social media posts in April and May 2023 talking about his desire to become a serial killer.

“Imagine the rush you would feel during filming. [expletive] Up. You could probably literally get high from adrenaline alone,” Cobb allegedly wrote.

Another post reportedly said: The only way out is bloodshed. ”

Cobb will join the U.S. Marine Corps in 2023 and begin basic training in June 2023, officials said. He was reportedly stationed in California until recently discharged from the military.

Cobb is said to have considered several possible locations for the attack, including a Jersey Strong gym and an Aldi grocery store in Robbinsville.

Cobb’s cellphone also contained notes on how to bring the gun into New Jersey, officials said.

If convicted, Cobb could face up to five years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
