Infanteria Marina de Armada Paragua hosts U.S. Marines, builds future training plans and security cooperation > U.S. Southern Command > News

In an effort to strengthen cooperation and partnerships, the Commando Infanteria Marina de Almada Paraguaya (COMIM) will host U.S. Marines from the South for a joint military-to-military project from April 8th to 11th. Ta.

The Personnel Planning Task Force, held in Asunción, Paraguay, marked an important step in continuing and strengthening the relationship between the Paraguayan Marine Infantry and the U.S. Marine Corps. Officials from both sides emphasized the importance of maintaining a strong partnership to enhance regional security in the Western Hemisphere.

“This is a step in the right direction to rebuild relations,” said COMIM Commander Contra Almirante (Paraguayan Major General) Albino Bogarin Flor.

For MARFORSOUTH, workforce planning working groups with partner countries are routine. For Paraguay, this marks a shift in the relationship, with the U.S. Marine Corps launching a five-year plan to build training goals and personnel exchanges with Paraguay, starting with assessments and hoping to lead to bilateral training exercises. We would like to formulate the following.

Although the two Marines do not conduct many bilateral exercises, they do participate together in the multinational exercise UNITAS every year.

“This is about nurturing and building relationships throughout the planning process and through the execution of training,” said Col. Jason A. Borovis, Marforce Confederate Operations Director. “A broader bilateral military relationship between the Paraguayan Marine Infantry and the U.S. Marine Corps could significantly enhance regional security.”

Paraguay’s Marine Infantry has a special mission that reflects the country’s geography. Paraguay, a landlocked country, accesses the sea through the tri-border area with Argentina and Brazil, where the Iguazu and Paraná rivers converge. As a result, part of the Paraguayan Marine Infantry’s mission will include coastal defense functions through riverine operations. Additionally, it will strengthen prison security, law enforcement, and crowd control.

“You learn how to put goals and strategies together, like a puzzle,” said Paraguayan Captain de Navio and COMIM Chief of Staff Livio Alberto Duarte Romero.

Both Marines will strengthen interoperability and coordination between the United States and Paraguay to deter potential threats from transnational criminal organizations, facilitate intelligence sharing, promote regional stability, and combat humanitarian crises and They discussed ways to strengthen security in the Western Hemisphere by improving disaster response.

The Paraguayan Marine Infantry is part of the Navy and has approximately 800 marines, 400 of whom are assigned to one special forces unit and the rest organized into one battalion of three companies.
