Leidos and Elroy Air will demonstrate Elroy Air’s Chaparral system at the U.S. Army Yuma Proving Ground in Yuma, Arizona. The Chaparral is a “lift plus cruise” hybrid electric vertical takeoff and landing (hVTOL) cargo aircraft. The Chaparral system leverages the benefits of wing-based flight powered by electric propulsion and turbo power generation for efficient autonomous operation and long-range missions. Designed with an advanced carbon composite airframe and modular autonomous payload capabilities, it reduces manpower requirements and enables zero-touch logistics compared to conventional aircraft.
