DVIDS – News – Marine Corps Returns to Readiness

MARINE CORPS BASE CAMP PENDLETON, Calif. – There are times in life when we fail due to injury. It could be a stress fracture inherited from boot camp, or a sports injury caused during a field day. Regardless of the cause, one thing is clear: injuries can limit a Marine’s activities and leave them incapacitated.

Helping Marines return to full physical duties is Brian Reed, a strength coach and high-intensity tactical training instructor assigned to the 1st Marine Expeditionary Force. The Cincinnati, Ohio native is currently assigned to his 21 Area Fitness Center at Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton.

Since arriving in late July 2022, Reid has been the go-to person for fitness across the base, covering events and programs as needed. He focuses on implementing his programs of fitness at various levels, and his personal success with his one-on-one sessions coincides with his initial interest in training. Masu. Reed’s abilities don’t stop there. Page of Area 13 also teaches a one-week intensive HITT crash course monthly and bi-monthly at the Fieldhouse. He is an all-access pass to perform at his best on base.

“There’s a program I offer called ‘Return to Readiness,'” Reed said. “Basically, it’s a stop gap between physical therapy release and return to full duty. During that time, I’m helping Marines return to their pre-injury or pre-surgery baseline performance.”

Mr. Reed’s focus began at the command level and extended to individual Marines. Improving, creating, and implementing fitness programs for Marines in Marine Expeditionary Force Support Battalion I at the individual and group levels was his top priority. As part of the program, he is currently working with I Marine Expeditionary Force Support Battalion’s Training and Operations Division to prepare Marines for success.

“These programs are designed to not only ensure Marines are able to pass their semi-annual fitness events, but also improve athletic performance with physical strength and endurance,” said U.S. Marine Corps Staff Sgt. said Sergeant John Johnson. Reed’s involvement in a variety of sports during his high school years greatly influenced his decision to pursue a career in physical training and conditioning. One of his important motives was his desire to maintain and promote competitiveness in himself and others. He wants his clients to know that they don’t have to give up just because they get injured, the going gets tough, or they hit a plateau. That’s why he loves working with the Marines. Marines have the same hunger and drive as professional athletes, but with much more demanding tasks and requirements.

“Seeing the difference I’ve been able to make to the Marines and myself is rewarding and motivating,” Reed said.
